MSCA RUGBY UNION
ABOUT OUR RUGBY KAUPAPA
Our rugby journey began with the introduction of the Pasifika Youth Rugby Cup (PYRC) in 2021, founded (or reintroduced) by Jason Lemusu, Tia and our very own Kelly Jensen.
Māori Sports & Cultural Association (MSCA) was established specifically to take part in this tournament, bringing our tamariki, rangatahi and whānau together through rugby.
But from the beginning, our vision was always bigger than rugby. We wanted to create something that could grow beyond the field, providing opportunities for our people to connect through sport, culture and community.
The Pasifika Youth Rugby Cup gave us our starting point, and rugby continues to be an important part of our kaupapa. Through training, development and competition, we aim to build confidence, strengthen whanaungatanga and create opportunities for our rangatahi to thrive both on and off the field.
As MSCA continues to grow, so too does our commitment to creating pathways in other sports and cultural activities, while staying grounded in the values that brought us together.
Our Rugby Programmes
PASIFIKA YOUTH RUGBY CUP (PYRC)
The Pasifika Youth Rugby Cup is held every year in Western Sydney and brings together tamariki and rangatahi from across Pasifika communities, celebrating culture, connection and the spirit of rugby.
Through our participation in PYRC, MSCA provides opportunities for our young Māori players to represent their community, develop their rugby skills and confidence, and build lasting friendships both on and off the field.
More than just a rugby tournament, PYRC is an opportunity for our whānau to come together, strengthen whanaungatanga and celebrate our shared love of rugby and culture.
