From the very beginning of our journey, Te Raranga Whānui Kapa Haka have stood alongside the kaupapa and become a major foundation of what the Māori Sports and Cultural Association represents today.
Their support, guidance and commitment to our rangatahi has gone far beyond kapa haka. They have helped create a space where our young people feel safe to learn, grow and reconnect with who they are.
For many of our rangatahi living away from Aotearoa, identity can sometimes feel uncertain. Some come into the programme whakamā, shy and unsure of their reo, culture or where they belong. Through the aroha and patience shown by Te Raranga Whānui, those same rangatahi slowly begin to stand taller, sing louder and carry themselves with pride.
To witness that transformation has been powerful for all of our whānau.
Watching our rangatahi perform a haka or waiata at Pasifika with confidence, passion and belief is one of the proudest moments for many parents and supporters. What may start as nervousness and uncertainty soon becomes pride, connection and identity.
Te Raranga Whānui have helped our rangatahi understand that kapa haka is more than performance. It is whakapapa, storytelling, unity and connection to those who came before us.
The confidence and cultural pride our young people now carry is a reflection of the mahi, support and mana shown by Te Raranga Whānui throughout the years.
Their impact on our kaupapa and our rangatahi will always hold a special place within our whānau.
We are forever grateful for the role they continue to play in helping our young people grow proud of their heritage and proud to stand as Māori.
